About Us

Ascension Tech was founded in 2020 by Steve Hubbard, who has over 20 years of experience in Corporate, SMB and Residential IT / Technical solutions and services. Steve started his career in IT back in 2001 after leaving university where he studied Computer Sciences. Beginning in Corporate IT working as a Network Tech, Steve immigrated to Canada in 2004 where he found his feet working for two of the largest Telecommunications providers in Canada (Shaw Cablesystems G.P. & TELUS) gaining further experience in the areas of QA, Testing & Repair, Logistics & Field Operations.

 

After enjoying successful and rewarding roles in these fields, Steve left the Corporate world and worked in High River, AB for a fledgling SMB, working to help them grow into an established and trusted provider of managed IT services for the local community and clients further afield. During this time Steve expanded his knowledge and experience in Helpdesk Support and MSP solutions tailored to individual client needs, building meaningful relationships and trust with clients.

Continuing in this capacity until the Pandemic hit in 2020 and small businesses were forced to downsize and make adjustments in order to survive, Steve was faced with a decision of returning to a corporate role or striking out on his own. With all the relationships that had been built with the local community, the latter was the more appealing and rewarding choice and thus Ascension Tech was launched.

The goal with Ascension Tech is simple: Affordable and Professional IT Support and Services. When you call Ascension Tech for help, it is core to our mission that you will never have to worry about a bloated bill or anti-consumer practices. You want your IT demands handled efficiently and you don’t want to overpay, and we hear you!

Affordability and value are paramount with Ascension Tech. While we work to put the pandemic behind us, recession is looming and trimming expenses is ever more a priority. In response to this, we continue our pledge to all our clients to provide great value and service as follows:

In this time of uncertainty with inflation on the rise you can rest easy knowing we only charge minor markups on the sum of the base cost of these items and any applicable shipping & handling or taxes. For subscription services, we go further and charge no markup at all and can even setup transparent direct billing to you from select providers. Wave goodbye to excessive 50-100%+ markups. We feel confident that this alone sets Ascension Tech apart from our competitors and provides massive cost-savings to our clients.

Fair billing for us means starting with fixed rates for all types of work and smaller billing intervals. Have you ever called your IT support for a quick fix that takes a few minutes, only to be served with a bill for an entire hour of labour? Our billing for all our labour is calculated in 15 minute increments. You should never have to over-pay for excessive “minimum charges”.

A fixed labour rate takes the guesswork out of your bill. You can get help with your printer on-site, or some remote support for that pesky e-mail issue, or pickup & drop-off service for faulty hardware repairs, and you’ll know exactly how much your labour rate will be. If other service industries can do this, why can’t ours?

Our Labour Rate

Staying faithful to our pledge of transparency and affordability, we will always publish our rate and disclose any additional service charges publicly for anyone to check. We aren’t afraid to be compared to others, in fact we encourage it!

Our flat-rate for all labour is currently: $50/hr CAD

For Remote / Telephone Support:
Billing is rounded up to the nearest 15 minutes, from the time the remote session or phone call starts until it ends.

For On-Site Support:
Billing is rounded up to the nearest 15 minutes from the time we leave our premises until the time we return. You will not be billed any additional mileage charges.

Emergency Calls:
Any calls outside of operating hours or on Sundays will be billed at double the flat rate. Clients will be notified if they call after hours and can choose to authorize emergency rates before any billable work is performed, or can re-reschedule the call to wait until standard operating hours.
